Blood of Heroes
Home Omega Files Prometheus Universe

This segment of the web page is dedicated to one of my favorite systems.  Several years ago Mayfair Games put out a new system to role-play super-heroic characters in the DC universe.  It had its problems with first edition, but by the time it hit the subsequent 2nd and 3rd edition versions of the rules, it was a very strong game.  Even after DC upped the licensing fees out of Mayfair’s reach shortly after the production of the 3rd edition rules, it survived thanks to a mailing list connecting many of its users.  Now the Mayfair Exponential Game System has been sold to Pulsar Games Inc., and is produced under the name of Blood Of Heroes.   (This is NOT to be confused with the recent DC Universe RPG produced by West End Games --- a completely different system.  While still good and more up-to-date in regards of DC History and characters, it may take some getting used to)

I strongly recommend the Blood of Heroes system; it is weakest in trying to represent the lowest of characters – lightly trained no-power vigilantes in the vein of Batman are harder to represent but not impossible.  World shattering characters are MUCH easier to represent all the way down to the typical low powered or single powered mutant or metahuman.

I’ve played the game in all its versions.  The rules presented in the Blood of Heroes book and the Sidekick sourcebook represent the best and most streamlined version of the rules, fixing the few problems still existing in the rules.  (You’ll even find yours truly listed with the contributors of the Sidekick book.)

If you would like to know more about the system, check out the DCH/BOH Mailing List FAQ ran by Joshua Marquart.

The Omega Files link above is the world background and character links for the event I ran at last year's Dragon*Con.   I may run something again this year, but the event isn't until Labor Day Weekend.  If you're interested in something at Dragon*Con, please speak up and I'll make sure something is ready. (Super-heroic role playing was almost non-existent there.)  The world of The Omega Files  was been influenced by a variety of sources, but this idea is based on a GURPSâ world I invented for a short-lived PBEM.

Pulsar Games have come out with their Blood of Heroes: Special Edition which combines, cleans, corrects, and enhances their previous Rules and Sidekick  books.  IF you like this system, or the previous DC Heroes incarnation from Mayfair, you really ought to pick up a copy of this book.

The Prometheus Universe

The Prometheus Universe is a game I made and started recently to introduce the  BoH system to a recent group of gamers I've begun playing with.   Once I get this website stabilized, I will be adding characters in that game, including some NPCs such as Sparx and Hi-Gincs, some player characters like The Director and the Extra.  Stay Tuned!...  Until then, you can look at the background of this universe.
