Origin:

Leo was a graduate student working with a group of scientists trying to test a new atomic theory, funded

by a government grant.  During one experiment the test chamber ran wild, and exploded.  The Chief 

scientist was killed and key records destroyed.  Leo was caught on side, and bathed in an odd blue 

light seconds before the final  explosion of the chamber.   He awoke with several others of the team in 

the hospital.  He had been out the longest but appeared to be the least wounded.  Several of the others 

had received bad scars from the shrapnel, and one was in a coma.

Released after a day of observation, Leo tried to pick up the pieces of his life.  While searching for a 

new research position and finishing his graduate work with the university, Leo started noticing changes. 

 His hair began to glisten a little, and he seemed to notice grey hairs.   It started to spread over the next 

few weeks until his previous dark hair was all a metallic silver.  His eyes began to change, becoming 

blue on blue, and later details of the eyes disappeared.  By the time his hair had changed, his eyes had 

begun to glow.   

He found it hard to survive in the following weeks - He found he needed less and less sleep and food, 

until finally he neither ate nor slept.  He found he could see in the dark.  Self-conscious of his new 

appearance, he found it hard to continue his search for work.  How could he explain  his new visage to 

people?   He began to think a lot, taking long walks in his neighborhood, usually late a night.

Lost in thought on one such walk, some thug tried to mug him.   He offered no resistance, but the thug 

started to frisk him with one hand while holding a gun on him with the other.  He knocked his hat and 

glasses off, and was surprised by the glowing eyes.  "What kind of freak are you?" he gasped.  This 

upset Leo and instinctively a glow surrounded his body.  T
