Description:

6'; 180 lbs.     His dark brown hair is worn medium length worn back in his everyday identity, worn somewhat over his eyes and face when in his heroic guise, and always it is thick.  His eyes are blue.  He does have a slight scare under the right eye from an altercation early in his police career.   He wears a domino style max over his face, partially as an effort to hide that, as well as obscure his features.

Background:

Ron Grubb had been home sick from grade school when the NeoTek incident occurred.  His mother had just walked out of the room when the ball of light merged with him.  He had told his mother about the ball, but she discounted it as a result of the fever.  After the new stories she wasn't too sure.  Meanwhile Ron did dream a little bit of becoming a superhero, already having a sizable comic book collection and a fan of several titles.  Despite some childhood injuries where he tried to induce "an origin"; it was a phase that caused his parents some concern, but one he quickly grew out of.   However the sense of justice that his literary heroes embodied began to influence him and his career choice.  He decided to become a policeman.

He did well in school, and went on to the police academy.  He wanted to really be more of a detective, but had to put in his time as a beat officer, learning the ropes as it were.  He made mistakes.  While trying to cuff a suspect, the individual produced a knife hidden in his shirtsleeve and attacked.  He was cut beneath the right eye, a wound that later required several stitches, and was a telltale mark.  Of course he easily disarmed the assailant, especially with the help of his partner, Brian Plum.  He continued on in the force a couple more years before his incident occurred.

He had been in high-speed pursuit of a stopped speeder who thought he could get away, now burdened with a new gung-ho rookie cop as a partner.  His old partner joined in the chase, also now partnered with a young female rookie.  The pair managed to get the speeder cornered when he finally lost control, sideswiping the Plum's vehicle before fatally colliding with a tree.  Officer Plum lost control, and rolled the vehicle, several times, with the patrol car quickly bursting into flames.  Ron had to do some fancy driving to avoid both cars and stop; in the process his rookie had been too eager and had released his seatbelt a moment earlier and was knocked out as a violent movement of the patrol car sent his head into the side of the car.

Ron radioed for fire and ambulance.  Thick smoke obscured the whole area now coming from the two vehicles.  Overhead news crew helicopters were circling, but were hard pressed to see through the smoke and flames.  Ron tried to get at his old buddy but their vehicle was on its side, and he was having trouble getting close enough because of the flames.  He had to get them out --- NOW!

Then it happened – the long dormant energy manifested itself; his mind became clear and focused.  Almost without realizing it, he willed the door to rip itself off of the vehicle and removed the two injured policeman telekinetically.   A moment later and they were standing next to him.  He instinctively knew the gas tank was about to explode, and also knew to protect them in all field of energy as he moved them all away from the vehicle.  Within 5 seconds the tank DID blow, but the fire and blast simply wrapped around the field.  He sat them all down next to his patrol car.  Plum was awake the whole time, and thanked Ron.  Ron told him he wanted it a secret, so they said that the flames had gotten worse after Ron had got them out, that the door had been torn off in the accident.  By the time Ron's rookie woke up and the emergency vehicles arrived, their cover story was in place.  But Ron knew he would have to leave the force.  He received several awards for his actions in rescuing his comrades, but feigned an injury that had him leave active duty.  Plum recovered and became a Captain in the Decatur police force.  Ron became something of a private detective as a cover, but mainly became a Civil Metahuman Operative.  It allowed him to live something of his adult career and childhood dream.

He has become something of a detective now, and his Psychometry (PostCognition) allows him to see most events if he can get to the scene within a week.  While his power is not foolproof, it does offer clues.  Especially when dealing with metahuman criminals.  Frequently in action he will find himself coordinating others, even protecting less durable compatriots and bystanders, as well as doing investigative work.

In a failed attempt to refocus public opinion about him on his telekinetic abilities he chose the name Kinesis.  But he has already been branded a Psi and thus a telepath.

Personality:

Ron is a law-abiding individual.  He knows what is and is not legal, and will be one of the first to raise the subject of criminality on any group activities.  In practice this has kept their reputation clean on more than one occasion.   He won't press the subject, but he will be hard pressed to break the law.  He has been known on occasion to stretch it, however.  But he weighs information gained versus a conviction rather heavily.

Ron has had a hard time making friends.  While he is a telepath, he is not a mind reader.  That is to say, he can communicate telepathically, essentially reading and relaying surface thoughts.  But he cannot probe minds for info, nor can he control them.  However several bad articles have given telepaths of any sort a bad reputation and have made things problematic for him – even with teammates.  They HAVE experienced the touch of his mind in the line of duty, but sometimes they wonder how much he DOES know about them, and whether he can read minds, but just doesn't wish to reveal it.   If given the chance, many will find him a pleasant individual.

Ron rarely seeks nor enjoys the spotlight, and frequently leaves media types far behind as soon as possible.  He is careful of his privacy, and likes the ability to leave the heroic side of his life behind, and mingle with others who don't know of him as a telepath, and will react to him as a human.  He hasn't sought any relationships, but wouldn't turn one away should it arise.
