Alex Saunders has fought his way from grade school on up.  He struggled for grades despite a failing school system and having to work numerous odd jobs early on. He was driven by what he saw as a variety of injustices that nobody else seemed to notice, or at least, care about.  In High School he got on the newspaper staff, and exposed a teacher’s illicit on-grounds activities.  It wasn’t published in the school newspaper, but the local one.  It didn’t earn him any friends within the faculty, but it did earn him respect.  He managed to land a scholarship, which took care of college.   By that time he was sure he would go into journalism. 

He was always inquisitive and probing.  He loved to expose that which no one else had seen, or didn’t fathom.  This was evident.  He graduated with some honors, and landed his first paper job soon afterward.  He worked his way up, going to better and better news agencies.  He preferred written media to being a on-air personality – He had seen too many get sucked into that and loose sight of work; just end up being pretty faces for the camera.  He was the one to find and dig up the story initially.  Let the faces handle the follow-up.  Being in front of the camera or even a mike, makes it that harder to talk to the average Joe on the street.

He hates it when people act like “that’s just the way it is” when it SHOULDN’T be.  He has a strong sense of right and wrong, and is willing on occasion to step over the line if he can expose a greater wrong.  Any unprotected lawbreaker, disreputable politician, or corporate mega-power is fair game. He learns his turf, wherever it happens to be quickly, and establishes contacts throughout society.  He earns their trust, and that has given him more than a share of leads on new stories.  He is the rebel, the fighting underdog, a persona that he strives for.

Alex was following up on a lead of some shady corporate deal going down at a less than reputable part of town, having a meeting with a city official While observing a meeting, he himself was discovered by the corporate bodyguard. He was worked over severely and left for dead, but didn't die. After the others left he erupted, with most of his wounds healed. He managed to make it back to his place, but was assaulted by new sensations - his body felt different. Everything felt different. His senses were alive.

It took him a while to adapt - things made sense that never did before. He moved better - the world was alive. Methodically he reasoned out what had happened and ran himself through a battery of tests until he discovered what he could do and what his new limits were.

He returned to check in on the city official and the corporate bigwig, and was able to get evidence on both. It was almost TOO easy, just being an onlooker.  He's worked on developing his abilities, but has kept his place in the shadows... So far.
