This character was made for a proposed PBEM - based on the concept that the Greek gods of old exist and have subjugated humanity world-wide in the modern era. Players have been brought up to believe in them, but once they achieve power of their own, find that not all that they have been told is the truth. The game never started. Sirius

Background
Vindus
was born a citizen of Megapolis to a loving and loyal couple.
Bright and energetic, he grew to be an inquisitive boy.
Even at a young age, the stars fascinated him.
He and his dad would lay up and watch them, learning their names and
constellations. And all the stories behind the constellation names he learned
them then too. He loved school, and put much effort into it, struggling to please his parents. He did so, and was given funding for furthering his education in the University. It was no surprise to anyone that he went into Astronomy. His
school years were hard though; his
parents were lost in a traffic accident late his freshman year.
Even handling all of his father’s affairs, he still managed to get back
quickly enough as to avoid falling behind in his classes. Then
he started having headaches his junior year.
They increased and persisted, defying normal pain medication.
Finally he went to a physician and was diagnosed with an inoperable brain
tumor. At first they said that
there was little they could do. Vindus
was stunned – first his family and now his whole future had been stolen.
He wondered what he had done to upset the gods so that they would punish
hem like this. Struggle as he might
he couldn’t fathom any offense. Then
a medical organization came to his aide, wanting him to volunteer for a new
procedure that might save his life. It
involved a concentrated burst of radiation they hoped would burn out the tumor
without affecting the rest of his body. He
accepted, having no options left. And
then the radiation projector went wild during the procedure, giving him a far
greater dose than he was supposed to get.
After the event he was sick for a while, but recovered.
And the tumor WAS gone. He
had to maintain a monthly visit with the facility for a while, but there seemed
to be no long-term ill effects. He
resumed his studies, having missed only a semester. Graduating
from the university near the top of his class, he got work with the university
itself doing astronomical research. Months
afterward, he started noticing something – he was getting stronger – and he
tired less and less. He was concerned, but it wasn’t paranormal yet. Just odd.
Then while working on the large telescope,
he noticed a tool that had been left by maintenance workers near the
gearing , in a rather precarious position.
The telescope was on automatic controls and the tool had to be removed
before it got into the gearing and did serious damage.
He reached in and got the tool, but the now starting gearing caught his
shirt. Startled – he failed to
react fast enough, and his hand was pulled into the gearing by his sleeve,
mashing his fingers. He screamed,
even though he was alone. Moments
later he was able to free himself, knowing he was maimed.
Blood covered his hands, and
he quickly wrapped it up. But
by the time he got down, and to the first aid supplies the pain was gone.
He was worried that he was going into shock, or some major nerve damage
had been done. But when he unwrapped his hand, it didn’t look damaged.
He washed off the blood only to find them perfectly fine.
Not a scratch. He
realized quickly what had happened. He
had heard of those blessed by the gods. Was
this a reward for his earlier hardships? Or
some new game they were playing? He
began to systematically test himself. He
quickly found out his ability to fly and project beams of electricity, his own
personal lightning bolts. His
whole perspective has been changed by these events.
Had Zeus blessed him with his own thunderbolts?
If so, why? He began to
question the status quo. He began
to notice things about his society that he hadn’t before. Unwilling to go public with his abilities he crafted a disguise to mask his identity. Remembering something his father had told him long ago, he called himself Sirius, after the Dog Star, knowing that in ancient Greek its name meant “sparkling” or “scorching” --- feeling that was somehow appropriate. At first his suit was simply black, with a cowl to cover his features. Later he added more blues to reflect the nature of his electrical bolts, and a lightning bolt insignia. Now he’s a truth seeker, and in the guise of Sirius something of a rebel. He will help those who need it even if it means opposing traditional government and religious authorities. S.D.C.TM
