MageKnight / HeroClix Storage Solution

I picked up Heroclix Miniatures , the DC Hypertime set at Dragon*Con 2002 last year.  I didn't get into playing them afterward, lacking an opponent.  But in recent days I got hooked.  After my wife saw the MageKnight series she got hooked.  But that left a problem with storage.  The company provided cases would be FAR to expensive for a fair size collection.  So I started looking around.

At the local Target I found the Black and Decker Small Parts box, shown here. It had everything I required.  And a $11.99 price tag! Nice size, easy to carry, easy to customize.  The 4 boxes inside allowed you to separate your pieces accordingly.  ONLY a very few pieces in the collection so far have proved difficult to store in this box.

Shown here is the empty tray.  You get 15 dividers for each trays, but there are 30 slots for them in each of these trays.   You won't use that many on most miniature arrangements, but you might on some other storage.

Shown here are Heroclix miniatures. Notice how you can usually get 3 in each row, with a few exceptions like the Plastic Man shown.  Also the Flyers rarely can be put in the box on the stand.

It is possible, if needed to put two figures in a single slot like the side, but usually, you are putting one up and the other down.

Some figures do have to be put in sideways. Manbat was a problem for example.

Getting 18 miniatures in a tray , 4 trays, gives you approximately 72 miniatures taken care of per box.  Granted you lose a few here and there.  We had one SHORT MageKnight miniature that gained us a spot, so it does even out.

A MageKnight collection of Heroes

Notice that unlike Heroclix, the Half space is retrieved by storing a chest. instead of wasting a double slot for the large hero in the lower right hand corner.

Storage for MageKnight chests, artifacts, and other odds and ends is VERY easy -- Look how much can be put into a single box!

There are a few of the larger flat artifacts that can NOT be placed in these trays.

The flat black sides make for good decorations

Here my wife has taken some provided cardboard labels and personalized her boxes.  I've done similar with my Heroclix boxes with a Superman logo.

Hope this helps !   I highly recommend these!

UPDATE: 10/12/2003 --

I've been advised by a reader, Jason Montgomery,  that the Crimson Sky miniatures do NOT fit in these boxes - The bases of these miniatures are much wider and the wingspan makes them impossible to put in.

My wife and I are up to 7 of these boxes
