Dragon*Con 2001 Album (PBASE) These photos were snapped with a disposable camera, hence the quality... and fewer in number.

Dragon*Con 2002 Album (PBASE)  I bought a Digital camera with Dragon*Con as a major testing ground, and it shows.  I got LOTS of pictures, and have had lots of comments there of. (DX3900 Kodak -- See HERE for the camera's specs)  As I understand, some of the pictures were actually published in a fan mag.

Unfortunately PBASE has finally gone over to being a PAY site.  I can't add another image without paying money for it -- and there are other alternatives around.

Dragon*Con 2002 Album (Photo Access)I tried a few and my favorite is by far is Photo Access.  I've copied the above 2002 shots over to my NEW albums found there. Note the other albums, including the visit to the Superman Museum!

Dragon*Con 2003 Album (Photo Access) LATEST PICS! - Costuming is wild this year!  337 pictures have been uploaded...

Dragon*Con 2002 - In Review

Gaming was a bit of a bust- They were trying early and web-based pre-registration.  Translation- even if you were there early the first morning, within an hour of the con opening, you were looking at games already filled and taken.  The games and slots we got were few and bad. I only got into two GURPS games.

I did get to meet some Game designers - Steve Long (Hero Games - Champions) was at a Comics and gaming session we attended Friday, which was quite fun.  This led to me joining several other Role-players on Saturday for lunch with Mr. Long.  It was a fun discussion session, and he showed us preview layouts and stuff from upcoming books - even some VERY good artwork for upcoming books.

The parade was only about 15 minutes long, but it was pretty wild to see several columns of Stormtroopers marching down the street.

I got to attend another Comics session with Julius Schwartz (Dc Comics) Irwin Hansan, & Russ Heath (Old Boys of Comics session).  This was a fun session, even if Julius was loosing his voice some, but that didn't stop him from talking a lot...

Doug and I picked up some HeroClix - DC versions that have yet to be released publicly.  I got a rare Joker that was missing an arm - Otherwise I probably could have traded it for several others.  I also got a strong Doomsday figure.  Doug and I played a round of this game at the con with the help of some experienced players.  It was definitely fun.  I like the looks of the Heroclix system.  The Mechwarrior/Battletech variant looks even more interesting, and they said that they will be coming out with a Crimson Skies system next year.  THAT I liked and will be looking forward to.

I picked up the new Heroes Games 5th Edition, The new Champions sourcebook, and a new game called Silver Age Sentinels.  I'm still going through those, although I've already managed to get a couple characters designed for SAS.  MOST of that system is easy - some things weren't.  Fine-tuning a simple energy beam was the toughest bit of the rules to interpret.  The rest was pretty straight forward.

Sunday's big session was a Babylon 5 reunion.  We barely made it in time before they started, and the room was already full.  I did manage to get a few good photos of the cast members present , 4 from the original series and 2 from Crusades.  I've yet to get Sunday's pictures up, but should before the day is out.  The actor's banter, especially coming off of Saturday night festivities with little sleep, had the audience in stitches.

I managed to catch the end of a Stargate SG1 session.  I walked into a room completely unaware of what was going on , turned and saw Teryl Rothery (Dr. Fraiser).  I immediately went for my camera and she turned and posed, then joked about having camera radar.

The convention overall seemed a little on the light side - And I heard several dealers complaining about barely breaking even.  A few big game companies were noticeably absent from the con as well, but I hear that WorldCon was going on on the other coast, or about to, and that several actors and companies had to chose again between the two cons.

Costuming was as outrageous as ever.  I'm still learning my camera and its multitude of settings, but I've got over a hundred and forty shots up on my PBASE website.  Check them there.

Dragon*Con 2003 - Almost here

August 17, 2003

Well, I've decided NOT to run a game this year.  With Paypal as the only access to pre-registration and Paypal only getting its act together to get my accounts accessible after YEARS of complaining, I have my doubts as to whether I'll get in to anything or not.  It did seem like there was at least one M&M game there, a few Buffy games, and I might get into some HeroClix stuff.  All assuming that I don't get SHUT OUT at the registration like last year.

I do plan to be taking EVEN more pictures than last year, including a few animated shots.  I hope to be getting a fast memory card and tripod before the con, but that will be another $100.   I'm not expecting anything major at the convention.  I'm keeping an eye out for some Dr. Who audio dramas (CD)s - imports that are hard to get.  I'm also expecting to see a few pre-release items from WhizKids at their booth.  Beyond that it will be the surprises.  Items just released or about to be released.  Mostly though, I plan to hang on to my money.  No lame videos or knockoffs.  I hope to get a few shots from as many celebs as possible.  But we shall see.
