Public Identity, Distinct Appearance (Mutant) Alter Ego: Jerrod Cook Description:
Late twenties, thick Black hair, dark black on yellow
animalistic eyes, pronounced brow-ridge. 6
ft tall though stands slightly hunched, not erect. Tends to walk slowly or in
quick bursts, depending upon the situation. He is covered in thick fur-like body
hair on extremities and around face. Slightly
pronounced canine teeth, with very sharp finger and toenails, with fingernails
that can extend into full-blown claws. Hands
are somewhat distorted with slightly larger and longer fingers than a normal
human - Feet are much more hand like, oversized, with larger toes - Normally he
is forced goes barefoot, and is much more comfortable that way. Any shoes would
have to be custom made. Entire aspect gives him an air of being something like a
wolf man or ape, or something in between. History:
Jerrod mutated on July 20th, 1985 shortly after the
event, when he was only 12 years old. He
had always been a somewhat feeble-bodied child, the weakest and slowest in his
class. The energy changed him
physically, giving him phenomenal agility, increased strength & physical
constitution, and greatly increased sense of touch, sight, smell and hearing.
It also made his skeletal structure change somewhat, giving him a more
animalistic stance and style of movement. His
body hair grew fast and thick, especially on his arms and legs. Even his
fingernails became sharper as his hands mutated to produce retractable 9"
fingernail claws. His feet changed to become prehensile, growing sharp toenails
as well, making footwear impractical. His new form was capable of running at a
steady 50 mph speed, seemingly without tiring. His childhood changed; his parents were one of those
suing NeoTek, although they only got a small settlement compared to the
multi-million dollar asking price. It
was enough defray costs of specially made clothing, and to get him into special
schools to learn without being the target of childhood scorn or blame. His natural agility gave him an innate combat skill
nearly comparable to a black belt fighter.
He fancied himself a "super-hero" despite refined
anti-vigilantism laws. It lead to
several incidents during his teen-age years where attempts were made to restrain
him from getting involved; unfortunately, most of these attempts failed
miserably. He was spotted late in
his teen years, and was described to media as being something between a man and
animal. A reporter coined the term
"Manimal", which has stuck with him every since.
He's made no attempt to hide his identity, as his physical appearance
makes that impossible. Outgrowing his impulsive teen years, by the time he
graduated high school he had developed an interest in crime in general, and took
several college courses in various aspects of criminology. Later he went through Police Academy training, but did not
join the Police force. He opted
instead for one of the newly formed civil Super-teams, originally working in the
Two years ago he left Chicago , joining the Atlanta
branch. Still he frequently
talks of Chicago, mentioning placed he used to go there, or events that happened
there. He is quite acclimated to
the Atlanta area, and does plan to stay as long as possible. His record so far has been without fault, and he has
received several commendations for his service in apprehending various
meta-human criminals. He would be a very popular metahuman, save for the fact
that some people still can't get past his appearance. Personality:
Jerrod tends to be a cheerful individual, always willing
to look on the bright side. He
enjoys a good fight, but is not brutal in one.
Rather he is almost as quick with a quip as with a punch. He has always enjoyed his abilities and revels in them.
However he does have a strong sense of right or wrong, and is annoyed by
other people, meta-human or not, that bend, bypass, or break the law.
While not always by the book, he obeys it more than the next person. Because of his training and police experience, he is
more apt to be the liaison between the Team and the authorities. However he is not a leader - he is more comfortable being an
investigator. His keen senses make
him very good and alert at that. He
prefers being out and about, and doesn't like being cooped up inside and office
all day. He tends to take care of
his indoor duties as quickly as possible. Any
free time is always spent out doors, rain or shine.
He is selfless and very willing to help others in need.
He is made uncomfortable by the reactions his appearance may sometimes
elicit, especially when they expect him to be an unintelligent brute as his
appearance might suggest.
